Kathmandu | Nepal's main opposition party, the Nepali Congress, is set for a politically significant gathering as former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba is expected to address the national convention organized by the party's establishment-opposition faction.
Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday, convention coordinator Shashanka Koirala announced that Deuba will deliver a keynote speech when the event begins on August 14 (Shrawan 29).
Koirala said the convention aims to unite party leaders and cadres to confront the nation's growing political challenges while providing the Nepali Congress with a renewed vision rooted in nationalism, democracy, and democratic socialism.
"We are committed to giving the party a new direction and new energy based on its core democratic values," Koirala stated.
He also welcomed the recent Supreme Court ruling concerning the Nepali Congress, describing it as a positive development for the party.
Responding to questions about reports of possible legal action against Deuba upon his return to Nepal after medical treatment abroad, Koirala said the faction would strongly oppose any such move.
The national convention is expected to focus on the party's future strategy, organizational reform, and Nepal's evolving political landscape-making it one of the most closely watched political events in recent months.
